Deep in Aethoria's ancient forests walks a creature of legend - the Gorrimm, whose very presence marks the pinnacle of wild boar evolution. More than mere beast but less than deity, each Gorrimm serves as both sovereign and shepherd to all wild boars within their domain. Born only once every hundred generations of wild boar, these magnificent creatures embody the living crown of the forest.
A Gorrimm immediately stands apart from its kin with its massive frame, reaching 12-15 feet in length and standing 6-7 feet at the shoulder. Weighing between 1,500-2,000 pounds, they dwarf normal wild boars in every dimension. Their most distinctive features are their metallic-enhanced bristles and distinctive double tusks, which may appear on one or both sides of their massive jaws.
These double tusks, reaching 2-3 feet in length, contain high concentrations of naturally processed metals, giving them incredible strength and a unique resonance with mineral deposits. Unlike their Iron Boar cousins who process metals primarily for physical enhancement, the Gorrimm's metallic adaptations seem to enhance their cognitive capabilities as well.
Most remarkable are their eyes, which burn with an intelligence that speaks of something beyond mere animal cunning - a wisdom that transcends instinct and approaches true understanding of the natural world.
Though solitary in their habits, Gorrimm maintain constant awareness of all boar groups within their territory. They move among these sounders like living legends, leading them to rich feeding grounds and defending them from the forest's most dangerous predators. Even apex predators like Red Bears think twice before challenging a Gorrimm's authority.
Their understanding of forest ecology surpasses mere instinct, demonstrating complex knowledge of seasonal changes, predator movements, and even the metallic content of different root systems. This wisdom allows them to guide their charges not just to safety but to prosperity, maintaining a delicate balance that benefits the entire forest ecosystem.
Beyond their role as leaders, Gorrimm significantly influence mineral distribution throughout their territories. Their feeding activities, combined with those of their Iron Boar relatives, help process and distribute essential minerals through the forest soil. The areas under long-term Gorrimm influence often show enhanced growth and unusual resilience to disease.
The Gorrimm serves as the forest's ecosystem engineer, maintaining herd guidance, coordinating predator defense, managing resources, and transmitting knowledge to regular boars. Their territorial agreements with other Gorrimm ensure the entire forest ecosystem remains in balance.
Upon a Gorrimm's death, a profound transformation occurs. Their body is consumed by the boars they protected, and through this ritual, their accumulated knowledge is distributed through the herd. The territory remains maintained until the next Gorrimm appears, with mineral enrichment persisting and behavioral influences continuing through generations.
Hunters foolish enough to kill a Gorrimm face severe consequences - coordinated harassment by wild boars, systematic destruction of crops, persistent territory invasion, and multi-generational retaliation that can last decades. The forest itself seems to remember and avenge these crimes against its living crown.
The Adventurer's Guild classifies Gorrimm as a protected legendary species. These creatures command respect from all who enter the forest, and hunting them is forbidden under both guild law and common sense. Their complex relationship with human settlements requires careful management - Gorrimm are not hostile by nature, but they will vigorously defend their domain and charges.
