River Stones

"The flow of commerce"

About the Game

River Stones is an ancient game of strategy and calculation, traditionally played with stones or seeds. The game board represents the flow of trade along a river, with each player managing their side of the waterway.

Game Rules

Setup:

  • The board has 12 small hollows (6 per player) and 2 larger end stores
  • Place 4 stones in each of the 12 small hollows
  • The large end hollows (stores) start empty
  • Each player controls the 6 hollows on their side

How to Play:

  1. Choose a hollow on your side
  2. Remove all stones from your chosen hollow
  3. Moving counterclockwise, place one stone in each subsequent hollow
  4. Special rules:
    • If last stone lands in empty hollow on your side:
      • Capture all stones in opposite hollow
      • Place captured stones in your store
    • If last stone lands in your store, take another turn
  5. Game ends when one player's side is empty
  6. Player with most stones wins

Strategy Tips:

  • Plan multiple moves ahead
  • Keep stones on your side when possible
  • Use multiple turns to set up captures
  • Watch for endgame opportunities
