Biography

Zeke Thornfoot was born in the pleasure houses of Valdaryn in the Empire of Urudu — son of a courtesan mother and a half-blood small folk father whose wandering nature he seems to have inherited entirely. The small folk bloodline shows clearly in him: a slight build and a face of almost unsettling agelessness that makes it genuinely difficult to guess his years. Growing up in the brothels as his mother's son — a servant, not a practitioner — he received an education in human nature that no formal institution offers. He learned that beauty is real power, but only one blade in a well-stocked armory. He learned to read desire, manage rumor, redirect a conversation without the other person noticing, and move through a room in ways that let him be seen exactly as much as he chose to be. He learned to dance, and gymnastics besides — useful arts when navigating the attentions of guests whose interest in him was better discouraged than engaged.

At seventeen, having taken everything the brothels had to teach, he left — by choice, on his own terms — and walked into Valdaryn's streets looking for something the pleasure houses never offered. He found it in the form of Talaasan, the bronze dragon-folk knight. The meeting that introduced them involved circumstances requiring exactly the kind of rapid social improvisation Zeke had spent his childhood developing. What followed was a partnership: Talaasan taught Zeke honor — not as an abstraction but as a daily practice, specific and costly and worth the cost. Zeke taught Talaasan to laugh. Both lessons proved durable.

Talaasan sponsored Zeke's enrollment at the War College of Forgehold, where he formalized skills he had long been building by instinct: scouting, reconnaissance, infiltration, intelligence work, and military support. He was a natural. The instructors were uncertain what to make of him. His results were not uncertain at all. He and Talaasan have been partners and adventurers since — two people who made each other better and found no good reason to stop.

Notable Achievements

Zeke graduated the War College of Forgehold under Talaasan's sponsorship — an unconventional path for an unconventional student. His performance there was exceptional, built on a foundation of instinctive people-reading and social intelligence that the College refined into formal military craft. The combination of those two educations — one inherited from the pleasure houses of Valdaryn, one earned at Forgehold — makes him a scout and intelligence operative of unusual capability.

His years as Talaasan's partner produced an adventuring record of its own: two people with complementary skill sets and a genuine trust in each other, working through challenges that required exactly the range they together possessed. Whatever room needs charming, whatever passage needs finding, whatever conversation needs navigating without the other party realizing it is being navigated — Zeke handles it. Talaasan handles what comes after, if anything needs to.

Notable Actions

  • Left the brothels of Valdaryn at seventeen by his own choice, carrying a self-assembled education in human nature, desire, manipulation, and movement that no academy could replicate
  • Inserted himself into the circumstances that introduced him to Talaasan — a decision that changed the direction of both their lives
  • Earned enrollment at the War College of Forgehold under Talaasan's sponsorship and graduated with distinction, formalizing instinctive skills into professional military craft
  • Served as Talaasan's partner across years of adventuring, providing the scouting, intelligence, and social navigation that a knight in full armor cannot easily manage alone
  • Taught a bronze dragon-folk knight to find things genuinely funny — an achievement that those who know Talaasan will understand is not a small one
