Biography
Aloyisius — Al, to the people who actually know him — is the son of King Aldric and the monarch of the Kingdom of Astoria. His father was a good king in difficult circumstances, most notably the exile of his two most loyal retainers: Youren, a King's Guard Knight, and Shae, the court sorceress. The two had stood beside Aldric as he pushed for reforms the nobility did not want, and the nobles moved against them — forcing Aldric to choose between their lives and the stability of his kingdom. He chose their lives. He exiled them. He regretted it until the end of his reign and made sure his son understood exactly why.
Al was born one to three years after the exile — he never knew Youren or Shae, only his father's account of who they were and what their loss had cost. Aldric turned that regret into a curriculum: a king who cannot outmaneuver his court is not truly in control of it, and Al would not be caught where his father had been caught. He was prepared accordingly — royal army service, study with Astoria's mages, and a stint at the Imperial Academy enrolled under a false name as a merchant's son. He graduated the martial college with top honors and came away with something more durable than a diploma: genuine friendships across every social class, from nobility to commoners, none of whom knew they had been befriending a crown prince.
He takes the throne when Aldric falls ill and abdicates, roughly thirty years after the exile that shaped everything about how he rules. Aldric had spent the remainder of his reign quietly advancing the reforms the nobles had fought so hard to stop — and five years after his coronation, Al finishes them. What his father could not complete in a lifetime, his son closes in half a decade. Somewhere in the world, Mathieu Stonebow — son of Youren and Shae, born in exile, approximately four to five years Al's junior — is making his way toward a reckoning neither of them has fully prepared for.
Notable Achievements
Al attended the Imperial Academy in disguise — enrolled as a common merchant's son, studied in the martial college alongside students who had no idea they were training with a crown prince. He graduated at the top of his class and built a network of real connections across every level of society that has proven more valuable than any title. Those friends know him as Al. He has never corrected them, and has no intention of doing so.
His broader preparation for kingship — military service in the royal army, arcane study with Astoria's mages, and deep training in court politics specifically designed to prevent the maneuvering that cost his father so dearly — makes him one of the most well-rounded rulers Astoria has seen in a generation. He carries his father's lessons not as a burden but as a standard, and governs accordingly.
